В настоящее время сети на основе протокола CAN распространены также в промышленной автоматизации, технологиях "умного дома" и других областях. На рынке CAN присутствует в двух версиях: версия А задаёт 11-битовую идентификацию сообщений (т. е. в системе может быть 2048 сообщений), версия В - 29-битовую (536 миллионов сообщений).
